Chapter 34: A Special Lesson 1
"I'm sorry, I didn't do it on purpose..." Qing Mo apologized repeatedly, but as she stood up straight and clearly registered the scene before her eyes, she couldn't help letting out a loud cry: "Ah! You two—"
At the same time, a flicker of shock flashed across the face of the usually expressionless Han Tianhan. Qing Mo's shout pulled him back to his senses, and he released his grip on Wu Lang's collar as if struck by an electric shock, taking several steps back in rapid succession. He then rubbed his mouth aggressively with the back of his hand, as if determined not to stop until every trace of the filthy mark was wiped clean.
"Teacher, I'm sorry, I was just careless earlier." Perhaps naturally submissive by nature, Qing Mo didn't lose her temper at the woman at all, instead bowing her head in non-stop apologies.
Wu Lang waved her hand and replied nonchalantly: "It doesn't matter; just treat it as getting bitten by a dog."
Uh—
With her mouth twitching violently, Qing Mo used her peripheral vision to peek at Han Tianhan standing nearby. His face was as dark as the bottom of a wok, and his sharp, icy glare bore straight into Wu Lang—looking as though he wished nothing more than to pierce several holes through her.
Yet Wu Lang lacked any self-awareness in this regard. Too lazy to take the long way around to the stairs, she simply grasped a sturdy tree branch, clambered up in a few nimble moves, and returned straight the way she came.
The remaining two didn't linger either, rushing toward the classroom for their next period as the bell rang.
At noon, Wu Lang reported to the cafeteria on time. Because the back kitchen was a place with strict hygiene requirements, she had to change out of her grimy tracksuit and put on the "white smock" Auntie Lin had prepared beforehand.
"Xiao Wu, I'll wash the clothes you took off later and hang them by the rear ventilation vent; I guarantee they'll dry before evening," Auntie Lin suggested warmly, completely unaware that Wu Lang was a teacher at Sheng Tian and assuming she was merely working odd jobs here.
Unable to refuse Auntie Lin's kindness, Wu Lang had no choice but to return to the gymnasium wearing the uniform smelling heavily of kitchen grease, then knocked on the door of the equipment room where Li Hao was.
Li Hao, who had been resting in his chair, opened his eyes. Sizing up the newcomer from head to toe, he asked in astonishment: "Teacher Wu, what are you..."
"Do you have a spare tracksuit?"
"A tracksuit?" Li Hao raised his brows, momentarily unable to process the request.
"Didn't you say to come find you whenever I ran into trouble?"
Li Hao nodded, conceding the point.
Having received a satisfactory response, Wu Lang pointed at her work uniform and gave a perfectly righteous five-word reply: "So, here I am."
"..."
If possible, Li Hao would rather have still been dreaming, because the person in front of him seemed even more terrifying than a nightmare. Since the custom-made clothes for Wu Lang were not yet finished, Li Hao had no choice but to contribute his prized tracksuit that he had kept locked in his locker, reluctant to wear it himself.
Although Li Hao was considerably burlier than Wu Lang, Wu Lang was fortunately accustomed to loose, oversized clothing. Rolling up the sleeves and pant legs of the pure white tracksuit, she turned away smartly, preparing to head downstairs for her first class. She left Li Hao standing there in a daze, two streams of silent waterfall tears running down his face.
On the other side, Wu Lang waited in the gym for quite a while until the class bell rang, yet only two students arrived tardily. Although she had mentally prepared herself beforehand, reality was often harsher than expected.
"Where is everyone else?"
Qing Mo glanced at Han Tianhan beside her, then looked around the empty hall, finally explaining in a soft voice: "Because Teacher Chen was injured and hospitalized, this class was suspended for a long time. Everyone probably forgot about it."
