Mrs. Shen Is A Little Sweet! - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Hadn’t this man left yet? Clearly, he was waiting for his client to wake up and pay him!
Drowning in misery over losing both her dignity and her savings in a single night, Gu Shuangshuang sullenly turned to dig through her purse. Just then, a tall, striking figure stepped out of the bathroom. Wrapped in nothing but a low-slung bath towel, water droplets trickled down the defined contours of his muscular chest. His deep, dark eyes were as vast and enigmatic as the ocean, lazily shifting to meet her gaze.
Shuangshuang squeaked, terrified to look directly at the man who had just taken her first night. Yanking the duvet over her head to hide her flaming face, she poked a trembling little hand out from beneath the sheets. “H-H-How much do you charge? Take your money and get out!”
“Charge?” Shen Mocheng’s expression instantly darkened. She still thinks I’m an escort? Excellent.
A cold, wicked smirk played on his lips. “Giving me money, are you? I don’t come cheap.”
Shuangshuang scoffed mentally, fully expecting him to name an exorbitant price. She generously pulled every large bill from her wallet. “Is one thousand enou—”
“Eighty thousand for the night.”
What?!
Gu Shuangshuang choked on her own breath, taking several seconds to find her voice. “Eighty thousand?! Why don’t you just rob a bank?!”
The man casually stroked his chiseled jaw. “You get what you pay for.”
“You’re all show and no substance!” Shuangshuang shot back furiously, testing her limbs beneath the covers. “I don’t even feel like I’ve been run over by a truck! There’s no soreness, and where are the legendary love bites? Are you incompetent or something?!”
“…” Shen Mocheng’s expression turned arctic. He took a long stride toward the bed. “Would you like to test whether I’m incompetent again?!”
“Don’t—don’t come any closer!” Shuangshuang burrowed back into the blanket, thoroughly defeated. Kneeling atop the mattress, she pleaded, “Handsome uncle, I didn’t mean it! I only said that so you’d give me a discount! I’m still a student—can’t I get half-off? Pretty please?”
The man looked down at her soft, small hands clinging to his arm. A slight ripple of satisfaction stirred within him, though he maintained a stern, icy scoff. “A discount just because you asked? Where does that leave my reputation as the top host?”
“Please! How about fifty thousand? Can I pay in installments?” Shuangshuang pressed her palms together, patting her chest solemnly. “Mister, don’t worry! I promise to introduce tons of my friends to patronize your business in the future!”
Shen Mocheng: “…”
His face turned pitch black. Not only did this little idiot have no idea he was her husband, but she was also offering to find him more clients.
With a dismissive flick of his hand, he slipped effortlessly into the escort persona. “Pay whatever you have on you now. Leave your student ID with me as collateral.”
An hour later, Gu Shuangshuang slunk back into Huaxi Villa. This was the residence the “old man” had provided after their marriage. He had never once shown his face, leaving only a housekeeper to care for her over the past two years.
Just as she scrambled through the back garden and into her second-floor bedroom, the housekeeper knocked. “Madam, it’s seven-thirty. Time for class.”
“Right, got it! Be right down!”
“Please hurry, Madam. The driver sent by Master is already waiting downstairs.”
“W-What? The old man is back?” Shuangshuang jumped in panic. Did that old husband come home last night?! Crap! I just hired an escort at a bar!
“No, Master hasn’t returned, but he arranged a driver to take Madam to university.”
Shuangshuang let out a massive sigh of relief, though suspicion lingered. Why the sudden attention? He ignored me for two whole years—did his conscience finally kick in? She’d rather he stay away entirely. There was only one year left on their three-year marriage contract, and then she’d be completely free.
Besides, if Lu Haoxuan and Gu Ziyi were throwing an engagement banquet, she now had the perfect candidate to bring along!
On the way to campus, Shuangshuang pulled out the paper slip from that morning and fired off a tentative text:
[Top Host Mister, since I owe you so much money, how about doing me another favor? I might hire you for a day to be my boyfriend and accompany me to an event to slap some people across the face! I’ll pay a separate fee—think about it!]
Across the city, Shen Mocheng received the text just as he walked into the CEO’s office at the Shengshi Group headquarters.
Secretary Zhang took his briefcase respectfully and brought in a fresh cup of coffee. The tall man settled into his executive chair, his bespoke black dress shirt accentuating his mature, imposing demeanor.
Reading the message, a faint smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. He tossed ten one-hundred-yuan notes onto the desk. “Zhang Qing, deposit this.”
Zhang Qing blinked in confusion. “Mr. Shen, this money…”
The man’s lips curved subtly. “Payment from Madam for last night.”
“A thousand for the whole night? Pfft—Mr. Shen, you’re quite a bargain…”
Shen Mocheng raised a cool, warning gaze. “I can adjust your salary to match that bargain rate.”
“Mr. Shen! My mistake, shutting up, leaving now!”
“Get out.” Shen Mocheng waved him away, then paused. “Wait.”
Zhang Qing turned around to see his boss holding a small student ID card, his piercing eyes locked onto the girl’s photo: Gu Shuangshuang, Sophomore, School of Design, Kyoto X University.
“The guest lecture invitation from a university a few days ago—was that Kyoto X University?”
“Yes, sir! But you were occupied with business, so we declined,” Zhang Qing answered, puzzled.
Shen Mocheng narrowed his eyes. “Call the president of X University. Tell him I accept the guest professorship—but switch my department from Architecture to Fashion Design.”
“Huh?!” Unable to keep up with his boss’s sudden whim, Zhang Qing then heard another instruction:
“Also, pull a complete background dossier on Gu Shuangshuang. I want it on my desk ASAP.”
Zhang Qing mused silently: Did one night really spark something? Is Mr. Shen actually interested in Madam?
Stepping into the corridor, he ran straight into Wen Jinhuai. Before Zhang Qing could greet him properly, Jinhuai barged into the office, his brow furrowed from overhearing the conversation. “Mocheng, I only found out last night that the girl is actually your wife!”
“And?” Shen Mocheng raised a brow coldly. “Speaking of last night, I haven’t settled the score with you yet. What kind of doctor drugs a girl?”
“My bad, alright?!” Wen Jinhuai sighed, genuinely frustrated. “How was I supposed to know she happened to be the girl you married? Look, if you slept with her, I’m glad—it proves your hardware works, and you’re attracted to her. But it’s a disaster that she’s the one on your marriage certificate. Take my advice: don’t sleep with her again. Keep playing with fire, and physical attachment turns into emotional attachment. I don’t need to remind you why you married her in the first place, do I?”
