Chapter 37: A Special Lesson 4
"Expelled?" Li Hao exclaimed, unable to stop himself from stepping forward to plead for the woman. "Director, Teacher Wu is new here and there are still many things she doesn't fully understand. We ought to be more lenient and accommodating."
"More accommodating?" Director Liu's voice instantly jumped up two octaves. Pointing a single finger at Wu Lang, her eyebrows bristled as fire practically spewed from her eyes. Flustered and exasperated, she said, "Teacher Li, don't you think I've already accommodated her enough?"
"More than accommodated—she's practically been allowed to do whatever the hell she—" Student Zhong Xiaole only got halfway through his sentence before shivering involuntarily, frightened into immediate silence by the piercing glare the woman shot his way.
"As students, we simply cannot tolerate such an unscrupulous teacher!" Refusing to give up, Fu Wanzi reasserted her haughty posture and pulled out her ultimate trump card. "Director, if the school administration doesn't treat this matter with utmost severity, the Parent Committee will certainly not let it slide!"
Fu Wanzi's mother chaired the Parent Committee—an educator who frequently appeared on television. A single word from her could often seal the fate of a school, and the vast majority of parents at Sheng Tian Academy were her loyal followers. It was no wonder Fu Wanzi acted so arrogantly. In reality, this so-called "Parent Committee" was merely a social playground where wealthy tai-tais gathered in their spare time to gossip and flaunt their status.
"No need to make things so complicated. Since you've reached a consensus, I'll just leave." With that, Wu Lang turned toward the exit. Her carefree demeanor was truly the epitome of "gently waving one's sleeve without taking away a single cloud."
In any case, working in the cafeteria still guaranteed her three free meals a day—and delicious Chinese snacks tailored right to her taste, at that. With her primary objective already secured, this teaching job was entirely dispensable.
However, before Wu Lang could step out of the gymnasium, a grinning male voice echoed from afar: "Eldest Miss Fu, one should really be a bit more benevolent in life. Just because Little Langlang ruined your little scheme earlier doesn't mean you should make things difficult for her at every turn. You know how hard it is to land a job these days!"
Looking toward the voice, Hua Quqin and the others were walking down from upstairs. Having finally suppressed her temper, Ou Wenji held her long blade horizontally across her chest and spoke coldly: "Anyone who stirs up trouble, makes improper remarks, or deliberately sows discord between teachers and students will be dealt with according to school regulations." It wasn't hard to discern the subtle, teeth-gritting undertone in Ou Wenji's words.
It seemed that the woman had checked off all three infractions listed...
Yet what baffled both the crowd and Wu Lang was why the notoriously impartial Student Union Vice President was speaking up for this newly arrived, unscrupulous teacher.
"Director, didn't you mention petitioning the principal just now? Why not give him a call and ask for his thoughts?" At this moment, Luo Ditian, who had been lingering nearby enjoying the spectacle, finally graced them with his voice.
Director Liu Xing pondered for a moment before reluctantly nodding. "A-Alright then." As the saying goes, comparisons can be cruel; Luo Ditian's words clearly carried far more weight than Li Hao's.
Taking out her worn flip phone with chipped paint, Director Liu located Principal Shao's number in her contacts and dialed. After two ringing tones, the vigorous voice of an elderly man came through from the other end: "Hello, who is speaking?"
