Mrs. Shen Is A Little Sweet! - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The night of the Qixi Festival was thick with the scent of romance. The streets were packed with young couples walking hand-in-hand, lost in passionate embraces, their faces glowing with joy.
Having just finished her part-time shift, Gu Shuangshuang hopped off the bus outside the Imperial Grand Hotel. Looking up at the neon lights reflecting off the lavish glass facade, a bashful smile broke across her round cheeks. Blushing, she pulled her long overcoat tighter around herself.
No one would ever guess that beneath that ankle-length coat, she wore nothing but a sheer, pink nightgown.
She took a deep breath, her heart hammering against her ribs.
The text message from her boyfriend, Lu Haoxuan, flashed through her mind: Shuangshuang, I just checked in. I need to see you tonight—I’ve missed you so much. Can you wear that nightgown you bought for me? I just want to hold you while we sleep…
They were childhood sweethearts who had been together for years. Yet, Shuangshuang had always guarded her final line of defense; even when he went abroad two years ago, she had never given herself to him.
Now that he’s back, be brave, Gu Shuangshuang! He’s dropping hints—give him a surprise!
A flicker of hesitation crossed her mind as a dark secret surfaced, draining the color from her face for a split second. But she shook it off. The sheer longing to see him eclipsed every lingering fear.
On the 18th floor, Gu Shuangshuang walked across the plush carpets, nerves fraying. Arriving outside room 0006, she took another deep breath, patted her burning cheeks, and reached for the doorknob with a sweet, nervous smile—until a strange sound inside froze her in place.
Leaning closer, she heard a woman’s muffled, breathless moans growing louder by the second. “Haoxuan… oh…”
Shuangshuang stopped dead. The woman’s voice sounded horrifyingly familiar.
Her trembling hand pushed the door slightly ajar. Scattered across the floor were men’s clothes, a woman’s short skirt, torn black stockings, and high heels. Heavy panting echoed from the bedroom.
Her breath caught in her throat. Her eyes locked onto the two bodies tangled together on the king-sized bed. The man’s husky voice drifted out: “Babe… why are you so wild tonight?”
“Because you’re finally back! Haoxuan, I missed you so much! You’re incredible… Could Gu Shuangshuang ever satisfy you like this?”
“Still have the energy to talk? Guess I’m not trying hard enough.”
“Since my dear sister is keeping you so well-entertained, Lu Haoxuan, why the hell did you text me to come over? Did you invite me just to watch this disgusting sideshow?!”
Gu Shuangshuang’s face was as pale as snow. Her voice shook with cold fury as she stood in the doorway, refusing to take a single step into the filthy room.
Lu Haoxuan froze instantly. Snapping his head toward the door, shock registered across his face. “Shuangshuang… how… why are you here?”
Seeing the boy from her golden memories looking so repulsive sent a wave of nausea and piercing pain straight to her gut. But noting his genuine astonishment, she realized something was off. Her eyes shifted toward Gu Ziyi, who was casually leaning against Lu Haoxuan’s bare chest, a smug, triumphant smirk playing on her lips.
In an instant, Shuangshuang understood: Ziyi had sent the text from his phone.
“Tsk, you actually came, Gu Shuangshuang?” Gu Ziyi sneered, stroking Lu Haoxuan’s chest. “Are you naked under that coat, just wearing that cheap pink nightgown? Shameless! Still trying to seduce Haoxuan? He’s been mine for a long time.”
A long time? How long?
Shuangshuang’s heart felt shredded. She gripped her coat tightly, the thin fabric underneath burning against her skin like shame itself. Unable to take another second, she lunged forward, grabbed Gu Ziyi, and slapped her hard across the face.
Smack!
“You dare hit me?!” Caught off guard, Gu Ziyi stumbled to the side, shrieking in outrage.
His expression conflicted, Lu Haoxuan quickly pulled on his trousers and grabbed Shuangshuang’s wrist. “Shuangshuang, stop making a scene!”
“I’m making a scene?” As if touching toxic waste, she violently shook him off, tears brimming in her eyes. Raising her hand, she delivered a stinging slap straight across his face too.
“That’s for you,” she said coldly. “The two of you sicken me to my core.”
“We sicken you?!” Gu Ziyi scoffed, wrapping an arm around Lu Haoxuan’s waist while glaring down her nose at Shuangshuang. “Look who’s talking, you hypocrite! Haoxuan, did you know? Gu Shuangshuang has been lying to you all along! Two years ago, the moment you stepped onto that flight, she turned around and married an ugly old man! A second marriage, at that. Want to know why? Because you were broke, and that old geezer had money!”
“What?” Lu Haoxuan stared at Shuangshuang in disbelief. “Shuangshuang, is what your sister is saying true? Are you really that shameless? You told me you loved me!”
“Ha.” A bitter laugh tore from Shuangshuang’s throat. Her deepest secret was laid bare, yet the humiliation was instantly swallowed by sheer, cynical grief. A sad smile broke through her tears as she nodded. “That’s right. My father married me off for a plot of land worth two hundred million. But you, Lu Haoxuan—you’ll never know what I sacrificed for you. So what if he’s an old man? Even an old man is ten times the man you are. You and I are finished!”
With that, Shuangshuang whipped out a lighter, set fire to the wrapped gift she had prepared for Lu Haoxuan, and tossed the flaming box straight onto the bed between them. Without looking back, she turned on her heel and marched out.
“Ah!” Gu Ziyi screamed, dodging the sparks, before yelling down the hall: “Fine, Gu Shuangshuang! If that old bastard is so great, consider this your invite to our engagement party! Make sure you bring your precious husband along!”
Slam!
The heavy door shut out the sordid scene. Her vision blurred with blinding tears, Gu Shuangshuang ran blindly down the corridor and out into the night.
She had no idea which bar she ended up in, let alone how many drinks she had downed. All she knew was that a night meant for sweetness was nothing but a cruel farce; the two people closest to her had stabbed her in the back.
How laughable that she had endured a forced marriage with a two-year clause, naively believing she and Lu Haoxuan could still have their happy ending once it expired.
Instead, he had been sleeping with her half-sister behind her back.
And now they were getting engaged.
As for the “old man” she had married? Rumors said he was mysterious and powerful, but she had never even laid eyes on him. She didn’t know if he had one head or two, let alone how she could drag him to that wretched engagement party.
Lose the man, and now lose face too?
Having lost count of the bottles, a drunken Gu Shuangshuang let out a self-deprecating scoff. Cheeks flushed bright crimson, she slid off the high bar stool, clutching an empty bottle as she wobbled through the crowded lounge in search of the restroom.
Raising her heavy eyelids, a glowing advertisement on the wall caught her blurred vision:
